Proposed 2015 Code Adoption
A primary responsibility of the Routt County Building Department is to ensure that structures built throughout the County are built safely. This is done through inspection and code enforcement activity using Internationally-adopted standards. These include the International Building Code, International Residential Code, International Plumbing Code, International Mechanical Code, International Fuel Gas Code, International Existing Building Code and International Energy Conservation Code and the state-adopted 2014 National Electrical Code.

These codes provide the foundation that design professionals, builders and tradespeople use in designing and building residential, commercial and industrial buildings. The codes come from years of expert-level dialogue and input and each code is periodically refreshed to reflect enhancements and changing practices.

Routt County is seeking to update the building code to adopt the 2015 International Building Code. This is the latest International Code available and its adoption would help ensure that all structures built in the County are built to standards reflecting the latest technologies and practices.

As part of this adoption process, the County seeks public input on the code. In addition to seeking input, interested parties may subscribe via email to receive updates and information on the adoption of the new codes.

Construction community input is requested by Sept. 1 regarding the Routt County Regional Building Department upgrade to 2015 building codes, which is scheduled to take effect early 2017.

Input should be submitted to Routt County Building Official Ben Grush at .

Any interested construction professionals in Routt County who have not received the previous email updates from the building department that outline the changes from 2009 to 2015 building codes likely do not have a current email address registered with the department. Please call 870-5566 to have an email address added to the communication database. To review the updates, please click here.
